Challenges
This customer wanted to build a garden room at the rear of his garden, but had concerns as the location was nestled between three established trees and their root systems.
He wanted to proceed with the project while keeping the trees and without damaging their roots.
Before contacting us he had seen the concept of ground screws on a programme with Alan Titchmarsh, and thought it would probably be a good foundation solution for his project.
He researched ground screws and soon established they would be ideal, as the helical pile is slimline and bores in between the roots rather than cutting through them.
Solutions
Initially, the customer wanted foundations solely for the garden room itself but subsequently asked us to return to install additional ground screws for a small step to sit at the front of the building as well.
Due to its weight and size, the team installed nine 76mm x 1250mm RADIX PRO Ground Screws for the 2.5m x 2.5m garden room. This took just half a day, with little disruption, and the customer was able to start installing the structure on the same day.
The steel frame of the building was erected directly on top of the screws, and the construction of the rest of the garden room was completed in situ, with beautiful zinc cladding and heritage glass.
Six months after the completion of the original installation, the customer contacted No More Digging South East once again, asking for foundations for a small step to the front side of the garden room.
The team were pleased to assist, this time selecting five 76mm x 800mm RADIX PRO Ground Screws. These were installed within a few hours of the team arriving on site, and the customer could complete the project in its entirety.
The customer was delighted with the outcome!
With the project complete, the customer revealed he had recorded the whole process in photographs and was pleased to share these with us for this case study.
